Mineral Notes: Stannite occurs in tin-bearing vein deposits of hydrothermal origin. It belongs to the Stannite group and is dimorphous with Ferrokesterite. It is named from the Latin stannum, reflecting the tin content. The mineral was often referred to as bell metal ore.
Description: A specimen of metallic, steel-grey Stannite ore with inclusions of bright Chalcopyrite. Both minerals are highly crystalline and show numerous crystal outlines and faces. The colour contrast is very attractive. It is reported that Stannite from this location contains an appreciable amount of silver.
