Bornite

Bornite, Cu5FeS4 (Copper Iron Sulfide) is an important copper ore mineral which is more usually known as Peacock Ore. It does occeasionally occur in a crystalline form, but this is rare. Bornite's crystals, if found, are distorted cubes with curved faces. Sometimes the even rarer distorted octahedrons and dodecahedrons are found.

Description: This is a very rare manifestation of the mineral consisting of several globules of Bornite upon a quartz matrix. Close inspection shows that these are in fact single octahedral crystals. Each shows the classic multicoloured hues, with a tendency to blue-green, hence the reference to Peackock Ore.

Location: Dzeskazgan, Kazachstan.
