Quartz (SiO2) often crystalises with inclusions of other minerals. In some instances this is Rutile TiO2 (Titanium Dioxide), which forms long thin needle-like structures inside the body of the Quartz.
Description: A very unusual form of quartz forming almost spherical crystals. Closer inspection shows that these are in fact hexagonal in cross-section and have pyramidal terminations. The short axes however make the crystals seem almost round. The mineral is extremely lustrous. Most of the crystals are highly transparent, and this in combination with the luster, produces a very gemmy appearance under bright light.
