Mineral Species: Analcime
Chemical Formula: NaAlSi2O6.H2O
Chemical Name: Sodium Aluminium Hydrous Silicate
Mineral Class: Zeolite Silicate
Mineral Notes: Analcime belongs to the Zeolite group of minerals. This means that the crystal structure contains channels or pores through which other molecules, such as water, can freely pass. The mineral forms in igneous rocks either by crystallisation from a melt or by precipitation from water into vesicles (bubbles) in lava. It crystalises in the cubic system as trapezohedra or cubes.
Description: White, highly crystalline, Analcime on matrix. The crystal form is trapezohedral. Some of the crystals have unusual distortion. All are highly lustrous.
Location: Cape D'Or, Bay of Fundy, Cumberland Co., Nova Scotia, Canada.
