Mineral Species: Quartz var. Agate
Chemical Formula: SiO2
Chemical Name: Silicon Dioxide
Mineral Class: Tectosilicate
Mineral Notes: It is rare for any mineral to show more patterns created by nature than Agate. In reality Agate is Chalecedony Quartz that forms in concentric layers about some common centre. Each individual Agate forms by filling a cavity in host rock. As a result, Agate is often found as round nodules, with concentric bands like the rings of a tree trunk.
Description: A round specimen of multi-banded Agate of exceptional attractiveness. The body contains several concentric zones of varying shades of orange, red, blue and pink. The centre contains a tiny cavity lined with many tiny quartz crystals.
