Mineral NotesChalcopyrite is the most widespread copper mineral and is an important ore of the metal. The mineral is the end member of a series with iron that also includes Bornite, Covelite, Chalcocite and ending as native copper.

Description: Several highly cystalline clusters of Chalcopyrite upon a bed of pale-brown Quartz and Calcite. The Chalcopyrite, whilst relatively dark, is highly irridescent. This is particulalry true of a deposit towards the bottom of the specimen, which shows a very strong interplay of blue, green and violet colours.

Location: Cavnic, Romania.
