Mineral NotesGalena is one of the most abundant and widely distributed sulfides. It is the main ore of lead and frequently contains valuable amounts of silver.

DescriptionA thin matrix hosting two intergrown cubes of Galena. The crystals and the surface of the matrix are covered by a dusting of brassy Chalcopyrite. The effect is very pretty, offsetting the grey of Galena against the bright Chalcopyrite. A particulalry striking specimen when viewed under bright illumination.

Location: Magmont Mine, Bixby, Missouri. (This mine also produces the rare mineral Bixbyite, (Mn, Fe)2O3, which has been named after this location)
