Mineral Species: Quartz and Fluorite
Chemical Formula: SiO2 and CaF2
Chemical Name: Silicon Dioxide and Calcium Fluoride
Mineral Class: Tectosilicate and Halide
Mineral Notes: Fluorite is found in a wide range of geologic environments, ranging from inclusions in granite to replacement deposits in limestones. It is one of the most commonly collected minerals because of the beauty of its specimens.
Description: A single part-cubic crystal of purple fluorite whose exposed surfaces are covered by a blanket of white milky Quartz. The crystals of Quartz are flattened and some show highly unusual distortions. All have good terminations. The fluorite edges terminate in sharp quartz-covered point.
Location: Blackdene Mine, Weardale, England.
