Mineral Species: Fuschite
Chemical Formula: KAl2(AlSi3O10)(OH)2
Chemical Name: Hydrous Potassium Aluminium Silicate
Mineral Class: Phyllosilicate
Mineral Notes: Fuschite is a Chromium rich variety of Muscovite. It belongs to the Mica familiy of Sheet Silicates, noted for their cleavage into thin flexible plates.
Description: This is a large sized massive specimen of Fuschite showing the characteristic green colouration of the species. Close examination clearly shows the overlapping layer form of the mineral arising from the sheet crystalline structure. These sheets are very fragile breaking apart into tiny green scales, resembling glitter. The specimen has a pearly luster and has a greasy feel due to the layers sliding past each other and providing lubrication.
Location: Grovernador Valadares, Minas Gerais, Brazil.
