Mineral Species:  Fluorite

Chemical Formula: CaF2

Chemical Name: Calcium Fluoride

Mineral Class: Halide

Mineral NotesFluorite, CaF2 (Calcium Fluoride), is found in a wide range of geologic environments, ranging from inclusions in granite to replacement deposits in limestones. It is one of the most commonly collected minerals because of the beauty of its specimens.

Description: A very unusual specimen consisting of what looks like a single crystal of colourless Fluorite, upon whose surface sit hundreds of smaller, stepped, and individual crystals. All are colourless and highly transparent, making this a very attractive display specimen. At the base sit a small number of white blade-like crystals of white Barite. A lovely combination.

Location: Hammam Zriba Mine, Tunis, Tunisia.
