Mineral Species: Fluorite
Chemical Formula: CaF2
Chemical Name: Calcium Fluoride
Mineral Class: Halide
Mineral Notes: Fluorite is found in a wide range of geologic environments, ranging from inclusions in granite to replacement deposits in limestones. It is one of the most commonly collected minerals because of the beauty of its specimens.
Description: A white, chalk-like matrix, upon which sits a thick deposit of pale blue-green Fluorite. The Fluorite is highly crystalline and close inspection show the occurence of octahedral crystals. The form, however, is partly obsured by the fact that the faces have numerous botryoidal protrusions and growth zones. Onerall, this is a very attractive and unusual specimen.
Location: Naica, Chihuahua, Mexico.
