Mineral Species: Strontianite
Chemical Formula: SrCO3
Chemical Name: Strontium Carbonate
Mineral Class: Carbonate
Mineral Notes: Strontianite is a very rare carbonate and one of only a few strontium minerals. Crystals are much rarer than the massive forms, and are therefore highly prized. Typical specimens have spiky, minute crystals in radiating aggregates or tufts. However, it also forms pseudohexagonal twins similar to Aragonite. It is most commonly used as colouring agent of fireworks.
Description: White Strontianite in matrix cavity. The mineral forms small botryoidal nodules. Pearly luster and appearance. Smaller deposits scattered over other parts of the matrix.
Location: Dundas Quarry, Dundas, Ontario, Canada.
