Fluorite

Mineral Species: Fluorite

Chemical Formula: CaF2

Chemical Name: Calcium Fluoride

Mineral Class: Halide

Mineral Notes: Fluorite is found in a wide range of geologic environments, ranging from inclusions in granite to replacement deposits in limestones. It is one of the most commonly collected minerals because of the beauty of its specimens.

Description: A matrix entirely composed of fused Fluorite cubes cemented together with Quartz. The Quartz crystals are tiny and on top of the specimen they form a thin, highly lustrous, druse over the Fluorite. The Fluorite itself is highly attractive, being a pale blue colour. The crystal at the side of the specimen is particulalry fine. Closer inspection shows subtle phantoms within.

Location: Blanchard Mine, New Mexico, USA.
