Mineral Species: Beryl var. Goshenite
Chemical Formula: Be3Al2Si6O18
Chemical Name: Beryllium Aluminium Silicate
Mineral Class: Cyclosilicate
Mineral Notes: Beryl is not particulalry well known by the general public although its coloured varieties are instantly recognised as the gem stones Emerald and Aquamarine. The latter is a popular stone but does not command nearly as high a price as its green relative. Uncut aquamarines are common but relatively expensive, as would be expected of crystalline gemstone specimens. Goshenite is a rare colourless variety.
Description: A silver orthoclase-like matrix upon which stands an elongated cluster of Goshenite crystals. Most stand upright forming flattened hexagonal plates. The transparency is excellent giving these a very gemmy appearance. Quite hard to get a good photo because of the strong luster.
Location: Huya Mine, Pingwy, Sichuan, China.
