Mineral Notes: Halite is one of the most commonly occurring halides and has one of the most closely investigated crystal structures of any mineral. It is found in large deposits and salt domes. As common table salt it is one of the most familiar minerals. Its food enhancing properties makes it a prized substance.
Description: A very unusual Halite formation. The cubic crystals have fused together to form elongated aggregates almost like dendritic forms of other minerals. Nevertheless, individual crystals can easily be seen. Some faces show stepped growth zones and the mineral has an attractive waxy luster. (Due to deliquescence the specimen should be displayed in a dry conditions).
