Mineral Species: Cerussite
Chemical Formula: PbCO3
Chemical Name: Lead Carbonate
Mineral Class: Carbonate
Mineral Notes: Cerussite is often called white lead ore. Its properties are nearly identical to Witherite, but the mineral has the highest specific gravity of any carbonate.
Description: Several, well-formed, off-white crystals of Cerrusite line a cavity within the matrix of this specimen. These are mostly short, tabular prisms. On one side is a group of yellow-brown barrel-like Mimetite crystals. The contast between the two and the green colour of the underlying matrix, is very pretty.
Location: Tsumeb Mine, Otavi, Namibia.
