| Mineral Species: Aurichalcite
Chemical Formula: (Zn,Cu)5((CO3)(OH)3)2
Chemical Name: Zinc Copper Carbonate Hydroxide
Mineral Class: Carbonate
Mineral Notes: Aurichalcite forms in the oxidation zones of Zinc and Copper deposits. Crystals are fibrous and often aggregated into stunning rosettes. The mineral colour varies between attractive sea blue to pale green.
Description: A very rich specimen of two forms of Aurichalcite. Coating the matrix is a blanket of earthy, fibrous material, through which protrude numerous rosettes of needle-like crystals. The latter is much richer in colour and has a very sharp glassy luster. A very attractive combination showing the contrast between the two forms.
Location: Omega Mine, Pima Co., Arizona, USA.
