Mineral Notes: Gypsum is the commonest sulfate. It is a major rock forming mineral that forms massive beds, usually from precipitation out of highly saturated waters. Since it forms easily from saline water, gypsum may have many inclusions of other minerals and even trapped bubbles of air and water.
Description: A sandwich specimen of Gypsum, forming flat parallel layers as well as long upright crystals joining the plates. These range in size and complexity of habit from large tabular crystals to thin needles. The colour ranges from an attractive yellow to honey-brown. Together with a bright glassy luster this is a very attractive display specimen.
