| Mineral Species: Copper (native)
Chemical Formula: Cu
Chemical Name: Copper
Mineral Class: Native Element
Mineral Notes: Copper is one of the most important industrial metals and has been so since the bronze age. One of the main reasons for its early use is the fact that it is easily found in nature in its native, or unreacted, form. It is also relatively soft, so can be easily shaped into tools and decorations.
Description: An elongated nugget of crystalline Cooper. Most of the crystals have been distorted but some can still be identified, especially when magnified. As expected, the Copper has a dark orange-brown colour and a metallic luster. A nice specimen from an unusual Cornish location.
Location: Williams Stone Quarry, Trevassack, Lizard Peninsula, Cornwall, England.
