Mineral Species: Danburite
Chemical Formula: CaB2SiO8
Chemical Name: Calcium Boron Silicate
Mineral Class: Sorosilicate
Mineral Notes: Danburite is often confused with Quartz, because of their similarity. The mineral's crystals, however, have a diamond-shaped cross-section and wedge like termination in contrast to Quartz's hexagonal prisms and pyramidal terminations. Danburite's type locality is now buried under the city of Danbury, Connecticut.
Description: A cluster of several upright Danburite crystals. All have good clarity and the characteristic diamond cross-section. Towards the termination of one group is a small formation of deformed Pyrite crystals. At the base are several other well-formed Pyrite cubes.
Location: Charcas, San Louis Potosi, Mexico.
