Mineral Species: Jamesonite and Bindhemite
Chemical Formula: Pb4FeSb6S14
Chemical Name: Lead Iron Antimony Sulfide
Mineral Class: Sulfide
Mineral Notes: Jamesonite occurs with Lead ores and is commercially extracted when mixed with other metal ores. It is very hard to identify from similar minerals such as Boulangerite. It is often referred to as "feather ore" because in some locations the species has a feathery or needle-like habit. It is relatively rare.
Description: Crystalline Jamesonite and Bindhemite on Quartz matrix. Under magnification, thin elongated crystals of Jamesonite are easily seen, especially when outlined against the white Quartz. In other places the mineral is massive but still highly crystalline. Both minerals have a steel-grey colour and very strong metallic luster.
Location: Port Quin Mine, St Minver, Cornwall, England
