Mineral Species: Fluorite
Chemical Formula: CaF2
Chemical Name: Calcium Fluoride
Mineral Class: Halide
Mineral Notes: Fluorite is found in a wide range of geologic environments, ranging from inclusions in granite to replacement deposits in limestones. It is one of the most commonly collected minerals because of the beauty of its specimens, especially the well-formed cubic crystals.
Description: A very rare specimen of Black fluorite. The colour and high luster make the mineral very difficult to photograph. However, the crystal form is superb, composed of hundreds of small cubic crystals. Some are twinned. The high luster adds to the aesthetics and makes this a very pretty gemmy display specimen.
Location: Mill Dam Mine, Great Hucklow, Derbyshire, England.
