Mineral Species: Beryl var. Aquamarine
Chemical Formula: Be3Al2Si6O18
Chemical Name: Beryllium Aluminium Silicate
Mineral Class: Cyclosilicate
Mineral Notes: Beryl is not particularly well known, although its coloured forms are instantly recognised as the gem stones Emerald and Aquamarine. The latter is popular but does not command nearly as high a price as its green relative. Uncut aquamarines are common but relatively expensive, as would be expected of crystalline gemstone specimens.
Description: A single enormous crystal of blue-green Aquamarine. The cross-section is hexagonal. One crystal-end shows an excellent termination whilst at the other shoes the point of attachement to the original matrix. Some areas around the sides of the crystal are partially transparent allowing internal structure to be seen. Here the mineral is quite gemmy. This is a superb opportunity to own one of the largest Aquamarine crystals ever discovered.
Location: Karoi, Zimbabwe.
