Vanadinite var. Endlichite

Mineral Species: Vanadinite var. Endlichite

Chemical Formula: Pb5((V,As)O4)3Cl

Chemical Name: Lead Vanadate Arsenate Chloride

Mineral Class: Vanadate

Mineral Notes: Endlichite is an arsenic-rich variety of Vanadinite. In all probability a complete series solution exists between Vanadinite and Mimetite, with increasing amounts of Arsenic replacing Vanadium. Endlichite is a rare secondary mineral formed through the oxidation of primary lead minerals such as Galena.  It precipitates from aqueous solutions in veins and solution cavities, along with other secondary lead minerals.

Description: A classic location specimen of Endlichite. Hundreds of flattened tabular crystals on an earthy matrix. Many of the crystals are transparent and therefore quite gemmy. The strong brown colour and glassy luster complete what is a very attractive display specimen.

Location: Sierra de Los Lamentos, Chihuahua, Mexico.
