Mineral Species: Azurite
Chemical Formula: Cu3(CO3)2(OH)
Chemical Name: Basic Copper Carbonate
Mineral Class: Carbonate
Mineral Notes: Azurite is so named because of its intense blue colour, which is very distinctive, although the shade can vary widely between specimens. It is formed by the action of carbon dioxide and water on copper sulfides.
Description: Strikingkly large, blocky crystals of deep-blue Azurite. Many crystal faces show striations and some have a thin patina of Malachite, which provides a very aesthetic contrast to the almost black Azurite. A great specimen under good illumination.
Location: Mapimi, Durango, Mexico.
