Mineral Species: Jeremejevite
Chemical Formula: Al6(BO3)5(F,OH)3
Chemical Name: Aluminium Borate Fluoro Hydroxide
Mineral Class: Borate
Mineral Notes: Jeremejevite is a rare late hydrothermal mineral formed in granitic pegmatites. Only two world locations produce gem quality crystals Cape Cross and Ameib, Erongo Mountains, both in Namibia. The mineral is named after Pavel Vladimirovich Eremeev (Jeremejev, German) (1830–1899), a Russian mineralogist and crystallographer, who first recognized this species.
Description: A very striking single crystal of gem-quality sky-blue Jeremejevite. Because of its size it is rather difficult to photograph. Nevertheless the picture shows the shape and form extremely well. Also, because the specimen is very delicate, the crystal is mounted on card in a small plastic box. An excellent opportunity to acquire a rare example of one of the world's most attractive minerals.
Location: Ameib, Erongo Mountains, Namibia.
