Mineral Species: Scholzite
Chemical Formula: CaZn2(PO4)2 •2H2O
Chemical Name: Calcium Zinc Phosphate
Mineral Class: Phosphate
Mineral Notes: Scholzite may occur as a primary mineral but is more commonly found as a secondary mineral in Zn phosphate-bearing granite pegmatites and sediments. It is dimorphous with Parascholzite. It is named after Dr. Adolph Scholz (1894–1950), a chemist and mineral collector from Regensburg, Germany.
Description: A beautiful radial pin-wheel spray of Scholzite on a brown matrix. Individual crystal are easily seen as transparent needles. There are actually two such formations, one slightly overlapping the one below. A very striking specimen.
Location: Snowstorm Mine, Humbolt Co., Nevada, USA.
