Mineral Notes: Chalcopyrite is the most widespread copper mineral and is an important ore of the metal. The mineral is the end member of a series with iron that also includes Bornite, Covelite, Chalcocite and ending as native copper.
Description: A very rich specimen consisiting of several species in association with each other. The most striking is the Chalcopyrite which forms clusters of shiny cubic crystals. Amongst these lie small grains of black Sphalerite. The surface is covered by a thin, very lustrous, layer of cream Calcite. Much of this Calcite is highly crystalline and forms well-defined rhombohedral crystals. Also on ths surface are sharp, upright, columnar crystals of white Quartz.
