Mineral Species: Galena and Dolomite
Chemical Formula: PbS
Chemical Name: Lead Sulphide
Mineral Class: Sulphide
Mineral Notes: Galena is one of the most abundant and widely distributed sulfides. It is the main ore of lead and frequently contains valuable amounts of Silver and occasionally Zinc.
Description: A solid base of highy crystalline Galena. The crystals are well-defined, lustrous and show growth markings on many of the faces. The Galena is particularly striking on the underside. The top, on the other hand, has a very unusual layer of highly crystalline Dolomite. This has a very lustrous form and provides a superb contrast to the dark Galena below. Unfortunately, the full attractiveness of the Dolomite has proved almost impossible to photograph because of the intense luster. Overall, a very attractive display specimen.
Location: Herzsabanya, Romania.
