Mineral Species: Fluorite on Barite
Chemical Formula: CaF2
Chemical Name: Calcium Fluoride
Mineral Class: Halide
Mineral Notes: Fluorite is found in a wide range of geologic environments, ranging from inclusions in granite to replacement deposits in limestones. It is one of the most commonly collected minerals because of the beauty of its specimens.
Description: The specimen is dominated by a single large cube of dark-purple Fluorite. The edges and terminations are well-formed and sharp. Nearby are two smaller cubes and the reverse of the specimen consists of at least another dozen gemmy cubes. The colour contrast between the Fluorite and cream-coloured Barite is very attractive
