Mineral Species: Adamite car. Cuprian
Chemical Formula: (Zn,Cu)2AsO4(OH)
Chemical Name: Zinc Arsenate Hydroxide
Mineral Class: Arsenate
Mineral Notes: Adamite is an attractive mineral because of its colour and bright green fluorescence under LW-UV light. The mineral is isostructural with Cuproadamite, Olivenite and Libethenite. This means that they share the same symmetry and similar crystal shapes. Cuprian-Adamite is a variety of Adamite containing copper. It is a member of the Olivenite Group, between Olivenite and Adamite, but with zinc dominant over copper.
Description: Dark-green Cuprian-Adamite on matrix. Under magnification individual crystals are easily seen. Most are fused into an undulating, highly lustrous, crust. A very rich specimen from a classic location.
Location: Serpieri Mine, Kamareza, Lavrion, Greece.
