Mineral Species: Fluorite
Chemical Formula: CaF2
Chemical Name: Calcium Fluoride
Mineral Class: Halide
Mineral Notes: Fluorite is found in a wide range of geologic environments, ranging from inclusions in granite to replacement deposits in limestones. It is one of the most commonly collected minerals because of the beauty of its specimens.
Description: A very unusual specimen consisting of lavender Fluorite crystals gradually turning green deeper into the body of the cubes. Consequently the Fluorite has a very striking surface colour which becomes green-tinged where the crystals are more transparent. Otherwise the crystals are excellently formed with sharp edges and terminations. They are also very gemmy and highly fluorescent under LW UV light.
Location: Cambokeels Mine, Weardale, Co Durham, England.
