Mineral Species: Titanite var. Sphene
Chemical Formula: CaTi(SiO5)
Chemical Name: Calcium Titanium Silicate
Mineral Class: Nesosilicate
Mineral Notes: Titanite named after its titanium content is also often called Sphene, from the Greek word for wedge after its typical wedge-shape crystal habit. Large crystals are sometimes cut as gemstones but its softness makes these very fragile and hence Titanite is rarely seen in jewellery. Twinning is very common, producing a variety of interesting forms.
Description: A cluster of fused Titainite crystals. The mineral is transparent and therefore very gemmy. The largest crystal shows longitudinal twinning. Crystals of this luster, form and clarity are very rare.
