Mineral Notes: Agate is a banded, multicoloured, variety of Chalcedony Quartz. It occurs in an infinite number of colours and patterns, and no two specimens are alike. The extraordinary beauty and uniqueness of Agate is responsible for its great popularity. The material is usually polished to bring out its full beauty. It usually forms in rounded nodules which must be sliced open to bring out the internal pattern hidden in the stone.
