Fluorite, CaF2 (Calcium Fluoride), is found in a wide range of geologic environments, ranging from inclusions in granite to replacement deposits in limestones. It is one of the most commonly collected minerals because of the beauty of its specimens.
Description: A large matrix of white Barite on which sits a mass of bright purple Fluorite. The crystals are cubic and many are twinned. Although not very transparent, the crystals have a strong reflective luster. On the sides of the specimen the Fluorite is very closely associated with the Barite giving a mottled white-purple effect. There are also a number of side cavities containing quite large individual Fluorite crystals.
Location: Berbes, Asturias, Spain.
