Mineral Notes: Rutile is a major ore of titanium, a metal used for advanced alloys because of its light weight, high strength and resistance to corrosion. The mineral is often found as inclsuions in a variety of other minerals including quartz, tourmaline and corundum.
Description: A large crystal of black Rutile. It shows excellent icosahedral form. Below the main crystal is a secondary cluster of at least two smaller twinned crystals. Overall, the colour is deep brown-black with a strong metallic luster. A showy specimen of this rare mineral.
