Mineral Notes: Vivianite ocurs as an alteration product of iron ores or Iron phosphates under near-surface conditions. It is also found as coatings and concretions in newly laid deposits containing organic material such as bones, shells and wood. It is a member of the Vivianite group and was named after John Henry Vivian (1785–1855), Welsh-Cornish mineralogist, of Truro,Cornwall, who first discovered the species.
Description: Several overlapping, fan-shaped aggregates of black Vivianite crystals. These have a very strong metallic luster and most show good terminations. One of the best specimens we have come across from this location.
